Book Reviews

These pieces represent over two decades of reading and reviewing books, mostly for the Otago Daily Times. Because my sole qualification as a reviewer is a lifelong love of reading, they represent opinion rather than literary criticism, and I have the greatest greatest respect for all the authors whose work I have had the privilege read and review.

I have included links to the published reviews where possible, but because the paper ceased publishing on-line book pages in mid 2018, the posts here are copies of the work as submitted (some with additional editing on my part) rather than as they appeared in print. Any mistakes, omissions, or irritating stylistic excesses are therefore entirely my fault. I hope you will find them entertaining and informative, and inspire you to try something new.
