Pattern Recognition

William Gibson

William Gibson has been called the father of cyberpunk, but “Pattern Recognition” has a decidedly contemporary setting. Cayce is a freelance advertising consultant whose sensitivity (bordering on allergy) to brand marks ‘pick’ designs that will succeed in the marketplace. Her real fascination, however, is an enigmatic online film-in-progress. New scenes appear, at random and in no apparent order, while theories regarding who is making it (and why) abound. Then an ambitious tycoon (who sees its potential as a viral marketing tool) hires her to find the creator. Intrigue, wry social observation and Gibson’s brilliant writing make this novel a real treat.
